Luego de reparar las fallas t\u00e9cnicas del buque Falkor (too), la expedici\u00f3n Uruguay Sub200 \u201cViaje a lo desconocido\u201d volvi\u00f3 a encender al ROV SuBastian y tambi\u00e9n las pantallas del streaming. Hasta el momento ya se vieron especies como pulpos, cerdos marinos, una estrella de mar desplaz\u00e1ndose y peces lagarto. El equipo conformado por 37 cient\u00edficos, en conjunto con el Schmidt Ocean Institute, tiene como objetivo explorar la biodiversidad y los ecosistemas vulnerables a lo largo del talud de la plataforma continental, una pronunciada pendiente donde la plataforma desciende hacia el fondo oce\u00e1nico, a 200 km de la costa. La expedici\u00f3n alcanzar\u00e1 los 3.500 m de profundidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All\u00ed confluyen la corriente c\u00e1lida de Brasil, la fr\u00eda que proviene de Malvinas y el R\u00edo de la Plata, la segunda cuenca hidrogr\u00e1fica y estuario m\u00e1s grande de Sudam\u00e9rica. <strong>De estas aguas, dependen 63 especies de tiburones y rayas, 35 especies de ballenas y delfines, y las mayores colonias de cr\u00eda de lobos marinos sudamericanos y lobos marinos finos.<\/strong> Tambi\u00e9n, el R\u00edo de la Plata transporta materia org\u00e1nica, contaminantes, efluentes agr\u00edcolas y pl\u00e1sticos al Oc\u00e9ano Atl\u00e1ntico Sur. Hasta el momento, <strong>Uruguay s\u00f3lo ha reportado un EMV: el hogar de arrecifes de coral de agua fr\u00eda formados por Desmophyllum pertusum, un coral de crecimiento lento que crece en todo el Oc\u00e9ano Atl\u00e1ntico. <\/strong>Los cient\u00edficos sospechan que hay m\u00e1s ecosistemas vulnerables que deben conocer y proteger de las pr\u00e1cticas pesqueras.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adem\u00e1s, en esta expedici\u00f3n, el equipo recolecta animales, sedimentos y muestras de agua, mide la frecuencia y disponibilidad de la luz, la turbidez, la concentraci\u00f3n de ox\u00edgeno y el di\u00f3xido de carbono. A su vez, mide la direcci\u00f3n y velocidad de las corrientes en esa columna de agua.
